Tips to have fun with your dog at the beach

Imagine a sunny beach with waves crashing and lots of open space – wouldn't it be great to take your dog there? Well, you can!

Taking your dog to the beach can be a super fun time for both of you. But to make sure everything goes well, you need to get ready.

Here are some simple tips to help you and your furry friend enjoy the beach together.

1. Find a Dog-Friendly Beach:

First, find a beach where dogs are allowed. Some beaches let dogs come, but there might be rules like where dogs can go or when they can visit. Make sure to follow these rules.

2. Bring Important Stuff:

Pack things you and your dog need. Bring a leash, a collar with your dog's name, bags for poop, a bowl for water, water for your dog to drink, treats, and a towel. If it's sunny, consider bringing something to make shade for your dog, like an umbrella.

3. Keep Safe:

Safety is super important. Use a leash to keep your dog close to you. This is really important if there are lots of people around. Even if your dog listens well, they might get excited and run away.

4. Protect from the Sun:

Dogs can get sunburned, just like people. If your dog has light fur or skin that's showing, put sunscreen on their nose, ears, and belly. Ask your vet for sunscreen that's safe for dogs.

5. Drink Water:

Playing on the sand and in the water can make your dog thirsty. Give them plenty of water to drink. Don't let them drink ocean water – it's not good for them.

6. Be Polite:

Be a good beach friend. Clean up after your dog, cover up any holes they dig, and make sure they're not bothering other people.

7. Take It Slow:

If this is your dog's first beach visit, go slow. Start in a quiet area of the beach and let them get used to everything. Don't rush to the water right away.

8. Be Careful:

Beaches can have things that might hurt your dog, like sharp shells or broken glass. Watch out for these things. After playtime, wash off the sand and salt from your dog's fur.

9. Watch in the Water:

Not all dogs know how to swim, so be careful. If your dog is new to swimming, stay close by. You can also use a special doggy life jacket to keep them safe.

10. Rest Time:

Running on sand can make dogs tired faster. Watch your dog's energy and make sure they take breaks, especially if it's hot. Give them shade and time to rest.

Going to the beach with your dog can be really, really fun.

Just remember to get ready, keep safe, and make sure your furry friend is happy.

Pack up your stuff,  your dog's leash, and have an awesome time playing on the sand and in the water together!
